Hey! My name is Cassie Clayton I am a Junior English Licensure major. I love to read way more than write but I am learning that the two go hand in hand. I hope to graduate in May 2011 and begin teaching at the high school level the following Fall. Writing to me can mean many things. Sometimes it gives information. Sometimes it tells a story. Sometimes writing does neither of these things specifically it simply is an expression of thoughts.
My major obviously requires a tremendous amount of writing. So far the writing pertaining specifically to my major have been book analysis and teaching plans. Other than writing for school I do a lot of writing for my church. I travel overseas often and always write summaries describing my travels. My job as a babysitter requires no writing skills unless you count finger painting or tic-tac-toe.
I love to write book analysis. To me analyzing a book can be compared to finding a treasure chest full of unfamiliar objects that you have to identify and learn to use. By close reading and interpretation many things can be discovered that are hidden from a “lazy eye.” However, I despise research writing. I like to discover things on my own instead of report someone else’s findings.
Writing has failed for me in the area of communication, specifically text messaging. Although it is an extremely simplified version of writing it is still writing. Often times when I say something in my mind and then send it in a text message the receiver is unable to detect my tone of voice as well as attitude when writing. This failure of writing has caused many misunderstandings in my life.
Other than receiving an A in this course I hope to learn about how writing is incorporated into workplaces other than the one I will be entering into. The single most troublesome element of this class is that it is hybrid. My tech. skills are low and I have no desire to raise them however I realize that it is inevitable.
